Fitting 3528 to a 5.9L CPL over-penetrates into the piston lip → liner wash and cold haze; vice versa leaves the 8.3L bowl unlit at 30% load. Match by displacement and CPL, not by "both are 191-series 5-hole".

2.Why does 3528 bench at 310 bar on some samples when the book says 300 bar?

131/191-series spring tolerance is +5% (≈+15 bar on 300 bar), so 310 bar is +3.3%, inside print. But 3528 runs a thicker seat land (1.3 mm vs 1345's 0.9 mm)​ to absorb 300 bar impact; at 310 bar the seat contact stress rises ~10% above design, pulling seat-ridge onset forward by ~400 hr. Acceptable for fleet use, but log it-next teardown re-shim to 300 bar rather than running 310 bar to 9000 hr. Pop drift, not return volume, is the diagnosis key (same 191-series rule as 1345, but threshold shifted).
